Chupa Chups

In 2009 Jose Castro collaborates with the confectionery brand Chupa Chups, founded by Enric Bernat in 1958 and presently a renown leader in the candy market

The project brief requests to establish a new brand code to be used on the licensed products, the “Choose your Flavour” concept, with which the company still continues to work nowadays. It is inspired by a vintage aesthetic and the Berlin artist Peter Mac, icon of the 60ies and 70ies.

The collection includes Tshirts for boys and girls of all ages and a fun tin shaped packaging, continuing with the same concept of choosing your own flavor, thus stressing the collectible character of the products.

La colección abarcaba camisetas estampadas de niña y niño y divertidos expositores en forma de lata que mantenían el mismo concepto de elegir tu propio sabor, estimulando el coleccionismo de los productos.

El Corte Ingles

For the first time the designer of A Cañiza Jose Castro has created an exclusive collection for El Corte Ingles, available from the women’s floor (international botique) in the Vigo and A Coruña stores.

The designs are based on the concepts of exquisiteness and difference which are used to give shape to a range of both stylish and wearable clothes which are predominantely black, ecru, red and grey. The collection consists of a range of high quality leather goods which have undergone washing and spraying processes which differentiate them from any other product on the market. Each piece has its own special charisma and is also dual purpose ‘night and day’.

The collection plays with volume and mixes blouses, trousers and skirts with stronger and more crafted pieces to offer the clients the complete Jose Castro look. Special emphasis has been placed on the Little Black Dress adapting it so that it can be worn for any kind of celebration as well as for daily use.

The collaboration between these two firms has made it possible, for the first time, to aquire the famous Sarah Jessica Parker jeans, also in the black satin version.

kukuxumusu

The Jose Castro studio is a freelance collaborator with Kukuxumusu, a company whose name means ‘the flea’s kiss’ in Basque. They define themselves as the ‘drawing and ideas factory’ and their designs for t-shirts and other items use animals to demonstrate various ridiculous human habits.

Siempresviernes

Siempresviernes is a Galician firm created in 2004 dedicated to women’s collections. Their philosophy is described by its slogan ‘Life is too short to dress sad’.

Under the name Siempresviernes by Jose Castro, the designer presents his ‘Do the Mix’ collection, clearly inspired by the eighties but not dictated by it. The fusion and intermingling of colour, volume and music offers a revision of one of last decades’ most ‘trash’ periods. A selection of accessories completes the risky look that dominated the era.

Gratacos

The Jose Castro Studio has been collaborating with the historic fabric store Gratacós since 2007. This company has dedicated itself to the production of high quality fabrics since the 1940s and has Barcelona’s Paseo de Gracia as its window display.

It served as a sponsor for the Dead Bird and Redrum collections which were presented in Paris and was a supplier for the piece that Jose Castro presented as Spain’s representative during the Maison de la Création conference.

Jose Castro, alongside other artists from Barcelona, develops new ways to display the designs on mannequins in the company’s catalogues, using without seams, each season’s new fabrics. He has also participated in specific store based events; such as the Jose Castro wedding dress exhibition during Barcelona Bridal Week and the creation of the ‘Sombrero loco’ character (the mad hatter) for the sixth edition of la Passejada Amb Barret.

The designer also created an exclusive bag as a gift item, based on a double concept that unites the handmade with the technical. It is a reversible bag, with one side showing various sewing utensils such as scissors and thimbles while the other resembles a word puzzle made out of different qualities and types of fabric.
